The
DSAA 1999 Conference - Las Vegas
The
1999 DSAA Conference was held in Las Vegas: a fabulous convention city
with magnificent hotels, incredible shows and entertainment of all sorts.
That is the good news. The bad news is that Las Vegas is a big pond
and we are little fish. In spite of the exhausting hours spent planning
and preparing for the conference, the hotel had its own ideas of what
we should do. In spite of all that, we had a GREAT CONFERENCE!
This conference
co-chair was a small school operator and a large school operator; the
result being a combination of seminars for school owners from 1 to 100
cars. Those who spoke were a mix of current and former driving school
operators, as well as traffic safety educators in other areas. The topics
were interesting, educational and useful. The comments received were
positive and helpful to us in planning future conferences.
The climax to the
1999 conference was our final banquet. We certainly outdid ourselves
this year. The entertainment, a hypnotist/comedian, was outstanding!
This man invited 14 DSAA people on stage to be his victims.
Five of these participants were DSAA Executive Board Members kids.
As the show proceded, it grew funnier and funnier. Many of our serious
board members were laughing so hard, they were crying.
People from around
the country have since called to tell me that they truly enjoyed the
conference. For those of you who missed it - dont be sad. We have
another one coming up this November, in warm, sunny, beautiful Sarasota,
Florida. You wont want to miss this one!
Vegas
Golf Tournament A Success
On November 9th
at the Angel Park Golf Course in Las Vegas we held our first annual
Super Ball tournament. It was a great success and enjoyed
by all the participants. The team of Jim Gero (Western Regional Vice
President), Richard Vezina (President of Propulsion International) and
Bob Thaxton won this inaugural 18 hole event. The weather was gorgeous
and the course in magnificent condition.
Other winners included
Gilles Payant and Jim Gero for being closest to the pin on a par three
hole. Derek Russell had the longest drive of the day on a par five hole
and Sharon Postigo (a novice) had the longest putt of the day, making
one from 45 feet away. Every person received gifts for participating
and each participant got a special prize at the conclusion in addition
to our special winners.
If you werent
there, you missed a fun filled day with great friends. We would like
to thank John Sattler and our wonderful friends at General Motors for
all the great prizes and their sponsorship of this inaugural event for
DSAA.
